Park Strategies Welcomes Karen Hitchcock

June 24, 2010

Senator Alfonse D'Amato is pleased to announce the addition of Karen Hitchcock, Ph.D, former President of the University at Albany, State University of New York, to Park Strategies as a Special Advisor. Dr. Hitchcock will specialize in developing strategic relationships between educational institutions and commercial enterprises, including Park Strategies’ diversified clientele.

Said Sen. D’Amato, “My partners and I are very pleased to welcome President Hitchcock to Park Strategies. She brings a lifetime of commitment to education to a firm that understands the critical role of education in commerce. By fostering greater ties between educational institutions and the great commercial enterprises and not-for-profit organizations that we are privileged to represent in a variety of capacities, President Hitchcock will not only make Park Strategies stronger but will continue to make a valuable contribution to the community as a whole.”

Dr. Hitchcock served as the 16th president of UAlbany from 1996-2004, overseeing one of the most dramatic periods of growth in academic programming and infrastructure in the institution’s history. The development of the University’s nanotech initiative, including the School of Nanosciences (now named the College of Nanoscale Sciences and Engineering) and International Sematech’s initial relationship with UAlbany, as well as the University’s new biomedical-related East Campus, commenced under President Hitchcock’s administration, in large measure due to her abilities to navigate the halls of government and academe with equal ease.

As the 18th Principal (President) of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario (2004-2008), Dr. Hitchcock continued to foster university, government, and industry Partnerships. She led the development of Innovation Park, the University’s first research park, as well as a Performing Arts Center on the banks of Lake Ontario.

“Canada’s loss was our gain when Dr. Hitchcock returned to the Capital Region from her tenure as Principal of Queens University,” Senator D’Amato continued. “She is a proven educator, administrator and advisor, and I know she will be a tremendous asset to the firm.”

Dr. Hitchcock will be headquartered in the firm’s Albany office, overlooking the State Capitol, and will serve clients in all of the firm’s six locations.
